Murat Tabanlıoğlu (RIBA, Chartered Member) studied architecture at Vienna Technical University and graduated in 1992. He founded Tabanlıoğlu Architects in cooperation with Dr. Hayati Tabanlıoğlu in Istanbul in 1990. He has atelier programs at universities in Turkey and lectures at international platforms.
Recent Tabanlıoğlu works comprise a wide range of building types including residential and mixed-use complexes in Istanbul, Levent Loft I & II and Kanyon including the tallest high-rise building of Istanbul, Sapphire Tower; contemporary urban complex Zorlu Center; a stimulating urban transformation project for Istanbul, Galataport; the first modern museum of Turkey, Istanbul Modern; Turkish Pavillion as one of the most outstanding examples of Expo 2000 in Hannover; Media Center for CNN Turk and Channel D, as well as several printing facilities and office buildings for Dogan Media Group such as DMC Ankara; mix-use and residence projects in Moscow; mix-use complex in Kiev; mixed-use buildings in newly developing city of Astana, Palace of Peace, Expo Center, Astana Stadium and in Almaty, Abbaya Office Tower; Amman Officers Club Tower in Jordan; high-rises in Dubai ; Hotel Rixos Libertas in Dubrovnik; Hotel and summer resorts in the Aegean Coast of Turkey; innovative shopping mall projects Marmara Forum and Metro Merter in Istanbul and many other mix-use developments and retail facilities in Turkey; industrial buildings like Tunacelik and Nova factories; and renovation projects such as Beyazıt Libary from the 16th Century, the memorable Tarabya Hotel and Hayati Tabanlıoğlu’s Ataturk Cultural Center.
Tabanlıoğlu has been awarded the 1st prize in the competition for the Bodrum Airport International Terminal in 1998. In 2000, the European Convention selected Dogan Printing Center in Ankara as one of the four best steel constructions in Europe. The architects have been awarded the first place in the Design Competition for the Municipality Building of Istanbul, in 2001. In 2002, Media Town has received the Building Design Award of The Chamber of Architects of Turkey. Cityscape Architectural Review Awards Jury has granted the big awards in two different categories, ‘Transport Future’ and ‘Community Built’, for the two Tabanlıoğlu projects, respectively Galataport and Istanbul Modern Art Museum, in 2005; and in 2006 for Kanyon project in “Commercial Built ” category.Kanyon has also received ULI Award for Excellence, Europe. Doğan Media Center Ankara has been granted XI. National Architecture Award (2008) in Built category. Dogan Media Center Ankara has also been granted Commercial Built Award ofthe 2008Cityscape Architectural Awards, together with Levent Loft in the Residential Built category and Zorlu Center in Master Planning category. Tabanlıoğlu ranks 89th in “BD World Architecture” top 100 list of year 2009.
Richard Sprow A.I.A Principal Perkins Eastman International, New York
Sprow is an architect with almost 40 years of experience in the planning and design of hospital and health care facilities, including the new 80,000 SM LEEDS Certified University of Pennsylvania Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine. His work includes several hundred health facility projects and work in Dubai, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey, Ecuador, and across the USA. He is a Principal at Perkins Eastman International, a major world- wide architectural and planning firm, and one of the leaders of its New York-based health care practice. He has spoken at previous meetings of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering Planning, Design, and Construction conference and has been an Adjunct Instructor for health facility planning at the New York University School of Continuing Education. Sprow holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Pennsylvania State University and has done graduate work at George Washington University. He is a Registered Architect in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Virginia and a Corporate Member of the American Institute of Architects.

Alan Shingler Partner & Head of Sustainability Sheppard Robson, London
Alan is head of sustainability at Sheppard Robson and responsible for the award winning ‘Lighthouse’, the UK's first net zero carbon home. He leads the research and development of Sheppard Robson's sustainability programme, reviewing all projects to provide a holistic approach to sustainability as part of the design process. He is a member of the RIBA Sustainable Futures group & the British Property Federation Sustainability Committee where he advises on sustainability best practice. He regularly conducts industry seminars and contributes to several industry magazines on issues surrounding sustainability.
He has been instrumental in the design and delivery on a variety of projects including office headquarters for Arup and Chase Fleming in the City of London, high density housing and mixed use developments in Islington, Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Barking and Madrid. He led Sheppard Robson’s winning designs for the Design for Manufacture Competition and was instrumental in winning Sheppard Robson the Sustainable Designer of the Year 2005/06 award and BCE Environmental Leadership Award 2007.
He received his degree and diploma in architecture from Leicester Polytechnic and studied design for extreme environments at the University of Houston, SICSA. He registered as an architect in 1995, joining Sheppard Robson in January 1998 and was made partner in 2006. Alan also tutors periodically at the Bartlett, University College London and London Metropolitan University & actively contributes to key sustainability initiatives with the BCO & Constructing Excellence.
Andrew Mellor BA(Hons) Dip Arch Dip AP RIBA Group Director RP Architects International
Andrew leads a team of enviromental specialists with an international portfolio of projects spanning the Middle East, Europe, and South America. The project developments and commercial properties.
Andrew specialises in the development of sustainability strategies for masterplans polices. His passion for enviromental issues is coupled with a concern for the social and economic impact of the development proposals His award-winning team of sustainability experts comprises architects, enviromental engineers and assessors, energy engineers, project managers and cost consultants providing a comprehensice and unsurpassed enviromental service including advice on energy efficiency measures, low and zero carbon technologies, water and waste management and material specifications.
Andrew sits on a number of industry working groups, provides sustainability training for clients and other consultants and has written a number of articles on environmental issues for periodicals and journals and has extensively lectured at conferences.
Bill Jolly MSC MCIBSE LEED AP Design Division - Head of MEP KEO International Consultants
Bill has over 20 years experience in the construction industry and holds MSc, BEng (Hons) and the LEED AP qualifications. Bill has been actively involved in sustainable design for many years both in the Middle East and the United Kingdom and is professionally recognised as a sustainability expert. He has worked on mega projects in the UAE such as the Burj Dubai Tower (the tallest building in the world), The Palm Jebel Ali, City of Arabia, Noor Al Ain Mall and many more.
Bill is actively involved in many environmental initiatives and was recently secretary of the ASHRAE global climate change technical committee. The primary focus of Bill’s thesis was centered on sustainability in the built environment and he has recently written a paper “CO2 Emissions, A Review of the United Kingdom’s Domestic Target”. The paper looked at mechanisms for and against the domestic target focusing on regulations and green building assessments. His work has also compared traditional construction against sustainable design which has included evaluation of ECO Homes, BREEAM and LEED assessments. Bill has also undertaken full complete carbon emission analysis for many construction projects.

Derek Swift (AIA / LEED – Environmental ISO 14001) has over 20 years of Business Development, Industrial, Commercial and Zone Planning. His specific skills are focused in Environmental Waste Management and Building Commissioning. His key successes were Due Diligence work throughout the western regions of the United State. He has successfully completed large portfolios for San Bernardino County and San Diego County and historical projects. His experience includes implementation of Environmental Waste Management. His brief design build experience are infrastructures and mixed use commercial building applications. Additionally, he has done multiple projects, Parks and Recreation Centers. He holds a key position with both Abu Dhabi and Dubai Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC).
Dr Mohammed Dulaimi BSc CE, MSC CE, PhD, Construction Management, MCIOB Director of Research and Innovation, Abu Dhabi International Centre for Organisational Excellence (ADICOE) Director of Project Management MSc Programme, The British University in Dubai (BUiD)
Dr Mohammed Dulaimi is a senior academic with an extensive experience in research in construction management and project management. Dr Dulaimi started his career in the construction industry working as structural designer and quantity surveyor. Dr Dulaimi has spent more than 20 years in academia working in universities in the UK, Singapore and UAE developing a strong record in winning research grants and leading international research teams. Dr Dulaimi has published extensively in internationally refereed journals and conferences with over 70 papers published worldwide. His main area of expertise and interest are management of innovation, leadership, project management, sustainable development and procurement. He has a significant international profile giving presentations, keynote speeches, seminars and short courses in USA, UK, Europe, Middle East and the South East of Asia. Dr Dulaimi is seconded from BUiD for part of his time to lead ADICOE research effort. Dulaimi has served a juror for Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award and Cityscape AD 2008. Dulaimi is also the coordinator the awareness programme and is a member of the executive committee of the Emirates Energy Award.
Emmanuel Shamoun Project Manager Dewan Architects & Engineering
Shamoun has 13 years experience in Architectural and Engineering design, and most recently in Project/Construction Management. Shamoun organised many alliances and agreements with many firms. The turnkey teams that Shamoun assembled pursued and worked on large-scale projects throughout Illinois, the U.S. and overseas, including: Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain), Europe (England, Croatia, Italy), South America (Uruguay), and Asia (China, India, Bangladesh).
Ivar Krasinski Principal Burt Hill
Ivar is an architect by training, but is engaged in many areas of study ranging from science and technology, through business and finance to the fine arts. Graduating from OSU in 1995, he became a designer at HOK S+V+E, where the large urban scale of the work made the relation between architecture and city planning a central focus. During this time he was the designer of several international scale sports venues and their masterplans, New Yankee Stadium in New York being the most recent. He moved to the UAE, eventually joining the firm of Burt Hill where he is a principal.. A leader in the architectural community, Ivar is a founding member of the AAUAE (similar to the AIA) and is the initiator of the AAUAE’s Urban Design Forum. He moderated a series of discussions on urban design, with panels including internationally-renowned architects, planners and developers. He has been responsible for pushing the boundaries of design in many projects, and the leader of several technology initiatives the main focus of which has been the balance of Financial, Sociohistorical and Environmental sustainability. Ivar's main focus in the profession is the application of tools in a conscious way with the goal of continually evolving the design process.
John Baker Principal Director Baker Kavanagh Architects
John Baker has over thirty years of architectural experience. He has a particular interest in the practice of environmentally sustainable design, which has led to a pursuit of work throughout the east coast of Australia and to the United Arab Emirates, and to membership of the Green Building Councils of both countries. John has taken this interest further with the construction of his own ecolodges at Mount View in the Hunter Valley, enabling him to further explore environmental technologies.
John Baker established the Dubai office of Baker Kavanagh Architects. His interest and expertise in educational architecture and environmental design recently combined on the Jebel Ali School project – a new 1200 pupil Primary and Secondary school which was one of the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified schools in the United Arab Emirates. John is well established and well regarded within the Australian architectural scene. He is committed to the highest in professional practice, having served as Councillor to the NSW Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. He is also regularly involved in examining candidates for Board of Architects registration.
Martin C Hay RIBA Manager – Architecture GHD, Doha
Martin Hay is Architectural Manager for GHD Qatar and sits on the GHD Sustainability Advisory Group, which is responsible for the implementation of sustainable strategies within GHD. He is member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and has a Masters Degree in Environmental Design and Engineering. He believes that an integrated approach to architecture and urban infrastructure is essential for the development of sustainable cities. He was recently invited as part of an expert panel, to discuss how legislation for sustainable development and green buildings, might be implemented in Qatar.

He is a Mechanical, Marine engineer and an alumni of IIM- Ahmedabad and is a Certified Energy Manager, Certified Building Commissioning Professional, LEED Accredited Professional and Pumping System Assessment Tool Specialist. He was awarded by Voltas for his work on the development of computer programs for heat load calculations, simulation of air-conditioner and bus air conditioner design. He has to his credit development manufacture and marketing of several new pumps and submersible motors and a computerized pump selection and testing program in mid eighties.
He is one of the founding board members of the Emirates Green Building Council and also heads the Technical Sub Committee of Water Efficiency. A Senior Member of the Association of Energy Engineers, ASHRAE and International Desalination Association he is currently working at MAHY Khoory & Co. LLC, Dubai, as General Manager, Corporate Development & Engineering.
Tomoyoshi Kato General Manager Nihon Sekkei Inc. UAE Office
Kato is an architect and the general manager, U.A.E. Office of a leading Japanese architectural firm, Nihon Sekkei, Inc., which was founded in 1967 by a team of architects and engineers who designed the first skyscraper in Japan, Kasumigaseki Building. Nihon Sekkei has long been noted for its commitment in environmental sustainability in design, planning and complex mix development.
Numerous fascinating design and engineering ideas have been realized in their projects to save energy and enhance environmental quality and sustainability. They have received many awards for sustainable design such as Sustainable Design Award and Eco-Build Grand Prize.
Kato has extensive experience of highly complex major development projects, including the Kanagawa science park and I-Land Tower in Tokyo. He also worked as an eco-design/ planning adviser to various local governments in Japan.
